The Golden Afternoon Experience

From our founding, we have aimed to create a ketamine infusion therapy experience that is safe and comfortable for everyone. We know this is a novel treatment and many people don't know what to expect.
1

Initial Screening

You have the option for a free screener by one of our care coordinators or nurses, or a paid consult with Dr. Jenn. We will make sure you are a good candidate for this therapy, walk you through what to expect, and answer any questions you might have to make sure you will be safe and relieve any anxiety before your visit. During this step, we will:
Ensure you are safe medically for this treatment
Make sure you have an understanding of ketamine therapy
Prepare for your initial visit by finding a good date/time, and making sure you are prepared with a short fast of eating (4 hrs) and drinking (2 hrs)

On Arrival: Set & Setting

The most important aspect of having a good experience is to ensure that you are comfortable. We will guide you to one of our rooms: Amethyst, Malachite, Topaz, or Turquoise. You can get comfortable with your adjustable, zero-gravity chair, and settle in for your infusion. During this step, we will:
Ensure your comfort with blankets and eye mask
Help you choose one a music playlists (we have our own library, or other options are available)
Use aromatherapy to ensure you are relaxed
3

The Treatment Itself

During your treatment, you may experience many things. Some report feeling extremely relaxed or "floating" feelings. The music will likely sound different from normal. You may experience visual effects. Your subconscious will be your guide. You may not be aware, but we will be watching you to ensure everything is going fine.
Most mood disorder treatments are 40-60 minutes
We monitor your vital signs and your sedation level
If you are uncomfortable, we can pause the session or support you through it.
4

Returning and Relaxing

Once your treatment is complete, you are welcome to rest and recover. We will bring you water, tea, snacks, and cookies to break your fast and help you to revitalize. When you are ready, you are welcome to go and meet your ride, or we can bring a friend or loved one to your room (you should not drive yourself home).
Recovery takes 20 mins to an hour
You may feel a little tired, groggy, fuzzy or clumsy
You may have some good insights or want to take notes on your experience: this is a good time to journal (we will provide you with a notebook at your first session)
The medical staff will check in with your experience and help you integrate if you need.

Treatment Series & Maintenance

Most patients benefit from a six-infusion series, spaced over several weeks, which has been shown in clinical studies to achieve the strongest and longest-lasting results.

After the initial series, many patients return for maintenance sessions—ranging from monthly to quarterly—depending on symptoms and long-term goals.

Connection is the first step to recovery. We are located in the Los Angeles area, Santa Monica.

You’ve got questions, we’ve got answers.

Still have questions about GLP-1, ketamine and Golden Afternoon's approach to both? These are common questions we have heard asked.
Do I have to do both treatments?

No. Some patients benefit from one modality alone, while others may benefit from a combined approach. Recommendations are always individualized based on your medical history, goals, and preferences. Our role is to help you understand your options—not to push a one-size-fits-all plan.

Is this approach safe?

Safety is central to our care model. All patients undergo medical screening before starting treatment, and we monitor response and side effects closely throughout care. Mental health symptoms are assessed and followed as appropriate, and we coordinate with outside clinicians when needed.

Will this guarantee weight loss or mood improvement?

No treatment can guarantee specific outcomes. Weight and mental health are complex and influenced by many factors. Our approach is designed to support metabolic and psychological health, but individual responses vary.

Can GLP-1 medications affect mood?

Large clinical trials of GLP-1 medications for obesity have not shown an increased risk of depression or suicidal behavior compared with placebo. That said, mental health is always monitored as part of responsible care, particularly in patients with a history of mood disorders.

How quickly does ketamine therapy work?

Some patients notice changes in mood within days, while others experience more gradual improvement over time. Ketamine therapy is not a cure and works best as part of a broader treatment plan that may include psychotherapy, lifestyle support, and ongoing medical care.

What if I’ve struggled with weight for years?

Many patients come to us after repeated attempts that felt frustrating or discouraging. We view this not as a failure of effort, but as a sign that biology and mental health may need to be addressed together. Our goal is to meet you where you are and move forward at a sustainable pace.

What makes your clinic different?

We intentionally provide care in a calm, unrushed environment. Our staff is experienced, attentive, and deeply invested in patient well-being. We believe feeling safe, supported, and respected is an essential part of healing—and we design our clinic experience accordingly.

Are compounded medications FDA-approved?

No. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved and are not reviewed by the FDA for safety, effectiveness, or quality in the same way as FDA-approved drugs. When compounded medications are used, we discuss this openly and review potential risks, benefits, and alternatives so patients can make informed decisions.
